Poetic dialogues with China
After the influential Misty Poetry era, Chinese poetry of the new millennium manifests a realistic, autonomous and multidimensional development trend. The poets of the post-90s generation, equipped with a profound knowledge of intellectual traditions, a solid knowledge of foreign languages and a global perspective, have reached a high intellectual and transcendental level in the context of China's profound social transformation. Their works reveal both an epic panoramic perspective and a nuanced observation of human individuality in all its subtle shades.
In a populous country like China, the human being is the central writing subject of poetry, which encompasses the entire breadth of society and thus becomes an integral part of culture. It transcends educational levels, professions, ages and social backgrounds - in China, people from all sectors and social classes passionately pursue their own poetry.
The session “From Misty Poetry to concrete people” attempts to create a space for concrete people to meet on the cosmopolitan stage of the poetry festival and focuses on Chinese poets of the younger generation and their own stories. These poetry-influenced personalities combine different backgrounds as musicians, physicists, cultural scientists, curators, journalists, teachers or poetry influencers on the Chinese Internet. The aim is to provide a more comprehensive insight into the cultural landscape and the functional system of contemporary Chinese poetry, the reality of the poets' lives and the current reception by the reading public. Since “poetry” (诗) and “song” (歌) are etymologically linked in the Chinese tradition and together define the concept of poetry in Chinese, Zhao Tai (lyricist, songwriter) will explain the influences of cross-genre musical practice on Chinese poetry from this perspective.
During this event, the processes of the Archway project (桥洞诗计划) will be presented as well as initial results from the workshop for Chinese-German poetry translation.
